Happy Here: 10 Stories from Black British Authors & Illustrators - social media assets
Celebrate Black History Month with Knights Of!
Black History Month is an annual event intended to recognise the contribution and achievements of those with African or Caribbean heritage. In recent years it’s become part of the school curriculum and is also celebrated in the community in places such as museums, care homes and workplaces. A broad range of topics is covered, from Britain’s colonial past to migration and music. Most schools still teach a history curriculum which focuses on traditional events and the achievements of white figures. Black History Month gives everyone the opportunity to share, celebrate and understand the impact of black heritage and culture. This October, join inclusive children’s publisher Knights Of and celebrate our Black British authors and illustrators by sharing the book Happy Here on social media.
Please note: Every primary school in England will receive a copy of this exciting new collection of stories and poems for young readers.
With an introduction from bestselling author Sharna Jackson, Happy Here features stories and poems by 10 Black British authors for readers aged 7+. Exploring themes of joy, home and family through a wide range of genres and styles, each author has been paired with a different illustrator to spotlight Black British artistic talent. With stories by Dean Atta, Joseph Coelho, Kereen Getten, Patrice Lawrence, Theresa Lola, E.L. Norry, Jasmine Richards, Alexandra Sheppard, Yomi Sode, and Clare Weze.
