RNIB Guide for Accessible Library Storytimes: Ready, Set, Read!

Our friends at RNIB have created this guide for accessible library storytimes, full of tips for library staff looking to run activities for children and caregivers who are visually impaired.

How to access the RNIB Library:

The best and easiest way to access the RNIB library for physical and e-braille (you can get 6000 books on one SD card!) is to call the RNIB helpline on 0303 123 9999.

The helpline staff will go through a quick application with the child or their parent/guardian on the phone and then join them up to the library.

They ask them their preference of genre and there is an auto select feature that sends them out a few braille books every couple of weeks, depending on their reading speed.

All RNIB’s braille is print on demand, so when it reaches your home, you are the very first person to read it and you don’t have to send it back.

You can search the RNIB library catalogue here: www.rniblibrary.com/iguana/www.main.cls?surl=a1 > Home

If you prefer or want to try e-braille please let our helpline team know and they can go through our SD card and braille reading devices with you.
